    Leutnant Wilhelm Frankl
    20 Victories and the Pour-le-Merite
    Perfect for Framing
Ltn Whilhelm Frankl was the only Jewish Ace to be awarded the coveted Pour-le-Merite.  This unique image was taken from the Ultra Rare NPG Postcard # 6226 (from my collection)
Frankl was an early ace of the Imperial German Air Service. He was one of the first pilots to receive the coveted Pour-le-Merite (12 July 1916). Flying with KeK Vaux he scored 8 victories and then transfered to Jasta 4 in early September 1916. He was appointed commander of Jasta 4 on 1 January 1917 but was killed in action on 8 April while in combat with Bristol Fighters. His plane was seen to break-up in mid-air.
I have removed all the writing, "cleaned up" and enlarged the photo which now measure more than 4 times the size of he original postcard. Matted and put into a standard picture frame it would be a handsome addition to any WWI collection.
