    Rare piece. Could find nothing like it in my research.
    A WWI patriotic cup and saucer by KPM (
    Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin
    ). It is all hand painted and depicts an Iron Cross in black accented in gold with the crown and 1914 surrounded by a gold laurel - the symbol for victory. The cup is a medium maroon which has been festooned with oak leaves and acorns in a band around the rim - in a symbol of strength. The handle is in a form I've seen on other KPM cups. Unsure of it's inspiration, but it appears to remind me of a nautilus.
    The cup measures about 4 inches tall and is about 3 1/2 inches at the lip. The matching saucer is about 6 1/4 inch diameter.
    Both pieces are similarly marked with the Royal KPM Berlin scepter and iron cross marks dating this to the appropriate period. Have only seen one other piece like this. However, it was not embellished with the crown or the 1914 date.
