Russian orthodox icon "St. Nicholas of Mozhaisk". Russia, 19c. Wood, tempera, hand painted on a leaf of gold. Size 31 x 26 cm (12.2" x 10.2” x 1"). St. Nicholas appeared in the air above the attacers, sword in hand, and saved the city. The type shows him full-length, a sword in his outstretched right hand and a church (sometimes interpreted as a city) in his left hand. There are Jesus and Mary images at the top of the icon. Very nice piece of religious art. The certificate is available upon request from Lithuanian Culture Department testifying the authenticity and age of the icon.
