. This impressive sculpture is of extremely fine detail and quality and sits magnificently upon a three tiered dark green/black marble with white vein square base. Base has green felt bottom. Beneath the bottom button appears an aesthetic pebbled plaque with highlighted accents which likelty would have been a space for its inscription and or presentation to an individual/society/business. Artist signed F. Schaper 85.
Fritz Schaper was a student of Albert Wolff and was based on Ch. D. Rauch. From 1880 to 1890 he taught as a professor at the Berlin Art Academy. In 1884 he became a knight of the Prussian order Pour le Mérite and in 1901 he received a large gold medal at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition. In the 1890s, Schaper received, in addition to many other commissions, also those that required imperial approval. He created several princely monuments as well as the gable relief on the main facade of the Reichstag building (1891 - 1893)
