We present to your attention the icon "Baptism of the Lord". The plot
of this icon is inspired by the gospel episode, which tells about
Jesus Christ, who had not yet begun his preaching and teaching
activities and was just preparing to enter the main stage. And the
moment of Baptism at John the Baptist was a kind of watershed for Him.
The latter doused those Jews who wanted to leave their sins and start
a new life in water. This was a preparation for them to believe in
Christ, to which John called. But then the sinless future Savior of
the world Himself came to be baptized. And for the first time,
probably, the decisive and impetuous Baptist began to hesitate: "I
need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" But he received
the answer: "Leave it now, for in this way it is fitting for us to
fulfill all righteousness." Then Jesus was baptized and the Holy
Spirit descended on Him, as shown in the icon in the form of the
shining of Light over the head of the Savior.
