A very original 1881 key date shield nickel graded AU 50 by PCGS. It carries strong details for the grade with very attractive crusty original surfaces. This date is probably the third toughest mint state strike to find of the entire series only following the 1879 and the 1880.
This key date holds a very low mintage of only 68,000. However, of this mintage the PCGS Coin Facts estimates that only 750 have survived in all grades today! It is one of only 14 graded About Uncirculated 50 by PCGS.
